¨Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit. The greatest wonder is that we can see these trees and not wonder more.
¨Wilderness can shrink but it cannot grow¨ – We must understand that this creation is threatened through hubris, through approaching all things through inadequate economic models, and through lack of concern over climate change. One cannot create new wilderness – what we lose, whether due to carelessness or intricately planned public works projects, cannot be brought back unless through the passage of time exceeding hundreds of years.
¨Going into wilderness is going home.¨ Wilderness is the greatest teacher that each person has available to her/him. So on this 51st year of the Wilderness Act, please fight for your home, that we will have the funding and the will to inhabit our role as guardians of the wild to the very best of our abilities.
¨You cannot have freedom without wilderness.¨
